"Horse Day"

On the last day of summer, August 31, two holidays are celebrated at once: Veterinarian's Day, approved by His Holiness Patriarch Alexy II in 2011, and Horse Day. In the Russian Orthodox Church, on this day, the memory of the Holy Martyrs Florus and Laurus, the patrons of horses, is especially honored.

On this day, a horse festival is held near Uglich in the Troitskoye stable yard.

There are many guests on this day from all over the Yaroslavl region.

The feast day begins in the morning with the Divine Liturgy in the Church of the Holy Trinity. Then the celebrations move to the stable yard.

The guests of the festival will see real sports horses in the program. Dressage and show jumping demonstrations.

In addition, anyone can feel like a real horseman by taking part in hobby-horseracing competitions. Traditionally, kobbing competitions (overcoming obstacles with a goat) are held with great success.

Many guests of the festival bring with them treats for the animals of the stable yard – gifts from the vegetable gardens: bags of apples, potatoes, zucchini and much more. Everyone can take a souvenir photo with animals, as well as ride horses, both on horseback and in a carriage. The holiday ends with a friendly tea party in the gazebo of the horse yard.
