Transfiguration Cathedral Tour

During the tour, you will get acquainted with the history of the main cathedral complex of Uglich, visit the Transfiguration Cathedral, and (if desired) climb its bell tower.

The cathedral has almost a thousand-year history. He was rebuilt many times, witnessed important events. The existing building was built in 1700-1706.

The uniqueness of the cathedral lies in its "quietness". The size of the central volume, where a fourteen-meter span is blocked by a seventeen-meter-high vault without the help of supporting pillars, is amazing. This design feature "reveals" the temple's space and ranks it among the best architectural monuments of the century.

On the wide planes of the walls and vaults of the temple part there are more than 50 compositions made in the early 19th century. according to the models of European masters of the late Renaissance and Baroque. A majestic gilded Baroque iconostasis with magnificent carvings completes the composition of the interior.

Since 2009, it has been an active church of the Russian Orthodox Church.
