On May 15, the ark with the relics of St. Tikhon will arrive in the region. According to Governor Mikhail Evraev, the solemn meeting of the shrine will take place at the Assumption Cathedral in Yaroslavl.
– The bringing of St. Tikhon's relics to the cities of Belarus and Russia began on April 6 and will end on October 9. This is part of the commemorative events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of his death," said Mikhail Evraev, Governor of the Yaroslavl Region. – St. Tikhon is an outstanding spiritual figure. He became patriarch at a difficult time and was able to save the Church from schism. He has done a lot for our region. He headed the Yaroslavl Diocese for seven years. Under his leadership, the construction of the church of St. Andrew of Crete was completed in Yaroslavl, and the Church of the Saviour of the Uncreated Image was erected in the village of Kukoboy.
At 9 o'clock, the Divine Liturgy will take place in the Assumption Cathedral, after which prayer services with the akathist will be performed every hour. In the evening, the ark will be delivered along the Volga River to the Tolga Convent. The procession from the Assumption Cathedral will begin at 6 p.m. On May 17, the ark will be moved to Danilov.
Tikhon became the eleventh patriarch, he was elected at the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1917-1918. He was an enlightened and active man, he encouraged the development of spiritual education, the construction of churches and monasteries. An exhibition at the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve is dedicated to the centenary of the death of this outstanding figure of the Russian Orthodox Church. It was his walls that were the home of Archbishop Tikhon for seven years, since 1907, when he headed the Yaroslavl and Rostov departments. Every day he served in the Church of the Cross and the Church of the Yaroslavl Wonderworkers. His prayers are remembered by many churches in Yaroslavl, Rostov and other cities and villages of the Yaroslavl Diocese.
