On May 25, a festive program "Sixth Sunday" was held in Pereslavl-Zalessky with walking and water processions based on historical events.
– It is believed that it was on the sixth Sunday after Easter in 1692 that Peter the Great launched a funny flotilla. Also, according to legend, on this day in 1382, during the invasion of the Tatar-Mongols, Dmitry Donskoy's wife Evdokia was rescued with her children and townspeople, who sailed away in boats to the middle of the lake, – said Mikhail Evraev, Governor of the Yaroslavl region. – Our region has a rich historical past, and such events help us preserve cultural heritage and pass it on to future generations, as well as attract numerous guests to the Yaroslavl region.
Today, the participants of the celebration marched in a procession from the Goritsky Monastery to the Right Embankment, from where the water procession started. The clergy, led by Bishop Theoktistos, and the faithful traveled by boat along the Trubezh River singing a water prayer service to the mouth and then went out into Lake Pleshcheyevo. The prayer service ended with the consecration of water and sprinkling of vessels belonging to the Sails of Pleshcheyev Lake community. A concert was held at the Church of the Forty Sevastian Martyrs, in which the students of the first Orthodox college on Solba performed.
"The ancient tradition of the procession and the water prayer service on Lake Pleshcheyevo on the sixth Sunday after Easter returns to Pereslavl–Zalessky and attracts the attention of not only pilgrims, but also tourists who are interested in historical events in Russia," said Gohar Vatinyan, Acting Minister of Tourism of the Yaroslavl Region. – Hundreds of guests come to the celebration. Every year, the number of events in the Yaroslavl region increases, as does the number of people who want to get acquainted with the cultural heritage of Yaroslavl. The national project "Tourism and Hospitality" also contributes to this.
Today, guests and participants of the festival on the banks of the Trubezh River also saw historical sketches and performances by creative teams. A field kitchen was organized.
