29 May 2025, 12:31

On May 30 and 31, the Yaroslavl Art Museum will host screenings of the multimedia project "Heavenly Families", an animated film story about holy families based on more than 140 works of Russian religious art. The film features a fragment of a unique 17th–century icon "Sergius of Radonezh with the Life and Legend of the Mamaev Massacre" from the collection of the Yaroslavl Art Museum, as well as elements of 17th-18th century temple paintings from the churches of Elijah the Prophet and John the Baptist in Yaroslavl, carefully adapted for screen perception. All initiatives aimed at promoting events and creating tourism products are implemented in accordance with the goals of the national Tourism and Hospitality project.

The Heavenly Families project tells about the ascetics of faith, whose family stories have become a model of love, parental care and spiritual perseverance. The visual basis of the film is the works of ancient Russian iconography of the XV–XVIII centuries, kept in the collections of the country's largest museums and private collections. Russian Russian icon painter in the icon "Sergius of Radonezh with the Life and Legend of the Mamaev Massacre" (the first half of the 17th century, the second half of the 17th century, 1680) from the collection of the Yaroslavl Art Museum, glorifying the image of the greatest Russian saint, refers to the events of Russian history. He is the only one in the history of Russian icon painting who created a picturesque legend about the victory on Kulikovo Field. The depth of the content and the high artistic merits of this work arouse keen interest among our contemporaries.

The animated story is accompanied by voice acting and adapted for a wide audience – from children to adults. On the website of the Heavenly Families project. There are three versions available in the Russian Federation: for adults, for children and for those who are just starting to get acquainted with religious art. Thanks to modern animation, biblical stories and the lives of saints are revealed in a new way: animated images make sacred art closer, clearer and more emotionally accessible to a wide audience.

"We are inspired by the response to the screenings of "Heavenly Families" in the regions – people thank us for the opportunity to see holy images through animation and the living word. We are glad that the project is now available to everyone: on the website you can independently familiarize yourself with the film story – watch the full version or individual plots. We plan to continue our work: we are preparing new video stories about holy families in order to expand and deepen the path of acquaintance with Orthodox culture," said Armen Popov, project manager, General Director of the Center for the Development of Social Projects.

The screenings are designed for different age categories: there are separate sessions for children and adults. Children's screenings are shorter in time and adapted for younger audiences, while adults include an additional educational block – an art critic's lecture.

The project was prepared by the Center for the Development of Social Projects and is being implemented with the support of the Presidential Foundation for Cultural Initiatives.
