On July 26, a chess festival will be held in Danilov, the main event of which will be the final of the Yaroslavl Region Governor's Cup tournament. The famous Russian chess player, grandmaster Sergey Karjakin is scheduled to participate in the large-scale event.

Everyone can play their favorite game by competing with residents and guests of Danilovo on chess alley, or, conversely, get to know this game for the first time by taking part in the quest along the Danilovsky boardwalk "Knight's Move".

More than 3,500 schoolchildren took part in the qualifying competitions of the tournament. The strongest representatives of all 19 municipal districts of the region will meet in the final. Tournaments among mentors of young chess players and amateur athletes will also be held on this day.

Danilovites have been preparing for the upcoming holiday for many months, and new chess facilities have already appeared in the city center. And for the festive fair, which will be open all day on July 26, the Danilovsky craftsmen have prepared a huge number of handmade chess souvenirs and treats.

"The Chess to School project, which is being implemented on the initiative of Mikhail Evraev, is helping to increase interest in this sport," said Vera Dargel, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Yaroslavl Region. – In general, more than 60 thousand schoolchildren are engaged in chess in the region, of which 26 thousand are pupils of sports schools.
