Assumption Cathedral

Yaroslavl Cathedral in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was founded back in the pre-Mongol period of Russian history. According to the chronicle, Prince Konstantin Vsevolodovich of Rostov "founded the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Yaroslavl in 1215."

Subsequently, the temple was repeatedly burned and rebuilt. The bloody events of the 20th century affected the fate of many Russian churches destroyed by atheists. The year 1929 brought new disasters, the bell tower was demolished, and then the religious community of the cathedral church was liquidated.

In 1937, the Assumption Cathedral was demolished. In 2004, the final decision was made to recreate the Assumption Cathedral. Church and state authorities have come together in this initiative. On October 26, 2005, a solemn ceremony was held to consecrate the foundation stone, which was performed by Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad, His Holiness the Patriarch.

Construction, which began in 2006 after archaeological excavations, lasted four years. The construction was carried out by the Moscow construction company VIT Corporation, headed by Viktor Tyshkin, who took over the financing of all the work.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
