Monument to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya in Rybinsk

The monument is dedicated to one of the famous Soviet partisans of the Great Patriotic War, Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya, the first woman with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. She fought as a schoolgirl. She set fire to several houses where German soldiers spent the night. During one of the attempts, she fell for the Nazis and was executed. The sculptor Matvey Manizer has been creating monuments to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya since 1942. The concrete figure in Rybinsk is Manizer's fourth work and the only one where a partisan is depicted in motion. The memorial was erected in 1964.
