The Poshekhonsky National Museum of Local Lore is a unique phenomenon of provincial culture. It was established in 1974 on the initiative of the indigenous inhabitants of Poshekhonye, with the support of the district administration, in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the region, respect for the history of their small homeland, their people. The museum has about 4.5 thousand exhibits, which are housed in seven halls: the history of the region, urban life, crafts and crafts, linen of Poshekhonye, Poshekhonye during the Great Patriotic War, Poshekhonye in the 20th century, Nature, fauna and flora of the Poshekhonsky region. Poshekhonskaya land was famous for the fact that gold leaf was forged here, excellent "Poshekhonsky" cheese was brewed, and rich flax crops were grown.
