The building of the former City Duma

The building of the city offices was built in 1813-1815. With its construction at the beginning of the 19th century, the formation of the Uglich Kremlin ensemble was completed during the classical period. The building housed the city Duma, the city magistrate, the guild council, the court, the public bank, archives, county and parish schools, and a hall for public meetings.

Currently, the building is part of the Uglich Museum. Temporary exhibitions are located in the exhibition halls, the exhibition "Forgotten Art: a thing and a masterpiece" presents decorative and applied art and household items: carved spinning wheels and painted chests, black-flattened kumgans and bronze jugs, silver cups and bone combs… This is an amazing world of things that once formed part of everyday life, but are now perceived as masterpieces of folk art. It is noteworthy that most of the items came to the museum from the Uglich people and residents of the Uglich district.

The building has a Red living room, decorated in the style of 19th–century chamber drawing rooms. Poetry and music evenings, presentations, celebrations dedicated to anniversaries and memorable dates, scientific conferences and readings are held in the hall. It was here that the Museum Lounge project began working for museum visitors in the evening. It is the story of one or more exhibits, an exhibition for one evening, a story told for a small circle of curious and attentive people.
