Danilovsky Museum of Local Lore

The P.K. Sharapov Department of Local Lore is the legal successor of the Danilov National Museum, which was opened on September 15, 1967. During the 60s of the twentieth century, an initiative group consisting of historian and local historian I.E. Beloselsky, local artist S.N. Sergpinsky and P.K. Sharapov, a teacher at the city secondary school No. 2, collected antiques, materials, photographs, and memories related to the history of the Danilovsky Region. They also became the creators and the first employees of the museum. The city government of that time housed the museum in the house of pioneers, which had a positive effect on the replenishment of museum collections. The museum staff, together with the staff of the House of Pioneers, organized field expeditions in the Danilovsky district and, thanks to the work done, the museum's funds currently number more than 22,000 items. The museum's collection introduces the history of the Danilovsky land, the heroic past and present, the crafts and crafts that existed in our region, the traditions and customs of the Danilovsky district, the local nature, animals and birds that live in these parts. Today, the museum occupies the entire building, which is a monument of history and culture of Federal significance, and previously housed the men's city school.
