The town estate of the merchants of the Varentsovs is one of the ancient stone mansions with a wooden mezzanine of the early 20th century. This is the former home of Alexei Varentsov, an Honorary Citizen of Pereslavl. A. A. Varentsov earned fame and honor not so much for his wealth as for his charity. His most famous contribution is his participation in the restoration of the bell tower of the Nikolsky Monastery, as well as in the improvement of the monastery. His son, Vladimir Alekseevich Varentsov, a researcher of the flora of the region, in turn, made a great contribution to the creation of the nature of the Pereslavl Museum of Local Lore.
The Varentsovs' mansion, built at the end of the 19th century, is a remarkable example of provincial Art Nouveau. With large curved windows and a semicircular balcony-veranda open to the garden, it is still very elegant, and at one time it was a real decoration of this part of the city.
The Varentsov family lived in their mansion until 1918. After the eviction, they moved to a house on the outskirts of Pereslavl. Currently, the administration of the Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park is located in the Varentsovs' mansion.
