The Gremyach Key is located 4 kilometers from the city of Pereslavl-Zalessky, on the southern part of the floodplain of Lake Pleshcheyev, near the ancient village of Veskovo at the foot of Mount Gremyach. It is part of the protected area of the Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park.
According to legend, the key appeared in a thunderstorm when lightning struck an oak tree standing near the mountain, breaking and burning the tree to the roots. Water flowed from the place where the lightning struck.
A characteristic feature of the key is that its shores and aquatic plants have a red hue due to "rust", which is formed due to water with a high content of iron hydroxide. Water has a peculiar taste and healing properties.
Over the years, singer Fyodor Chaliapin, artists Konstantin Korovin and Valentin Serov visited the Gremyach key.
