According to the decision of the City Planning Council, the monument was installed in August 2022 on Uspenskaya Square between the Museum of Urban Life of the XIX century and the Nikolsky Bridge. The sculptural composition consists of three figures: a merchant, a merchant's wife and a dog.
The image of the couple is a collective image of merchants - enterprising and active citizens, patrons and benefactors. According to the story, the couple went to the fair to show themselves, to look at others. When creating the image, it was decided to complement the composition with the figure of a dog in order to illustrate the famous urban historical fact.
A small gray mongrel named Serko received 150,000 rubles and an estate from her owner, merchant Maria Leontieva. During her lifetime, Maria signed contracts with the executor, the veterinarian and the people who were supposed to live with the dog on the estate. The dog lived for about a year after the death of its owner, and after her death, the inheritance passed to the city.
