Church of the Holy Trinity in Verkhne-Nikulsky

The village of Verkhneye-Nikulskoye of the Vereteysky settlement is located in an amazingly beautiful picturesque corner – on the shore of the Rybinsk reservoir, which offers a magnificent view of the confluence of the two rivers Ildi and Day. In the center of the village stands an architectural masterpiece of the early 19th century – the Trinity Church.

The village of Verkhne-Nikulskoye has an ancient history that goes back centuries, when these places belonged to the princes Solntsev, who descended from Rurik.

In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, Verkhne–Nikulskoye was acquired by Count Alexei Ivanovich Musin-Pushkin, the discoverer of the "Words about Igor's Regiment", chief Prosecutor of the Holy Synod and President of the Imperial Academy of Arts. Musin-Pushkin, having bought the village, began to build a new temple in it to replace the old wooden one.

The temple has an organic architectural ensemble, combines elements of Moscow Baroque and classicism, which is rarely found among rural temples. This is a rare example of a strictly centered five-domed temple, the so-called octagon on a quad. The decorative elaboration of the facades can be attributed to the "Naryshkin" Baroque.

Currently, worship services are held regularly in the church. On the days of patronal feasts, a procession is held around the temple. It is often visited by pilgrims.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
