The entrance gate of the Goritsky monastery in Pereslavl-Zalessky

The eastern or Passage gates (the middle or second half of the 17th century) are small in size, but due to the rich decor and the rich play of light and shadow, they stand out against the background of the calm surface of the walls, almost devoid of decoration. There are low round pillars in the lower part of the gate, two on each side of the roadway. The pillars support a wall entirely decorated with various architectural details and a sculptural image of galloping horses in the upper recesses– Only one of the skates, the right one, is well preserved, the other one was restored using the remaining traces during the restoration work. The upper superstructure above the gate is late, it was made in the second half of the 19th century.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
