The main academic building is built in the neoclassical style, decorated with columns and sculptures of muses.

The gymnasium traces its history back to the end of the 19th century, when Alexey Leontyevich Kekin, a prominent Rostov merchant and philanthropist, decided to bequeath all his property to his hometown, including the opening of the gymnasium.

At the beginning of the 20th century, a competition was announced for the best building design for the gymnasium. The prize was awarded to the architect P.A. Trubnikov's plan.

The gymnasium has a large auditorium where the Olympics are held, sports and assembly halls, and an astronomical observatory. The small Art Nouveau-style building houses primary school and foreign language classrooms.

In the early 90s of the last century, a museum of local lore was opened in the gymnasium building, which has an interesting exposition with several thematic departments: "School History", "Military Glory", "Household items" and "Literary local lore".
