The mansion of the last Rostov mayor A.H.Oppel

The mansion was built in 1899. Its former owner was Lieutenant Colonel Ardalion Khristoforovich Oppel. His great-grandfather in the eighteenth century, emigrated from Germany to Russia, became a famous doctor. When Napoleon offered the physician to return to Europe in 1812, he refused, citing the fact that he had sworn an oath to the Russian tsar. And his great—grandson, Ardalion Khristoforofich, came to Rostov for military service and became known for his energetic social activities. He was elected mayor, and it was under him that running water, electricity, and a telephone appeared in Rostov the Great. Moreover, Oppel insisted that all this be convenient and cheap for people. He and his family lived on the second floor of the house, and on the first floor they set up a printing house, which has been operating for more than 100 years. After the revolution, Ardalion Khristoforovich Oppel moved to Moscow, but his granddaughter returned to Rostov and his descendants still live in our city, although no longer in this house.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
