Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos

The first mention of the Rostov Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in the chronicles dates back to 1609 A.D. The temple was then made of wood. Then there was a big fire. The pious merchants of Rostov decided to restore the temple.

The construction of a new stone church began in 1795 and ended in 1803.

The Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos stood on the corner of Predtechensky Lane. With five gilded heads and a beautiful bell tower, this church was one of the richest parish churches. There are two chapels in it: the Apostles Peter and Paul and St. Nicholas.

At one time, the decoration of this temple was one of the richest in Rostov. In Soviet times, the church was closed, the finials were broken, the icons were transferred to the museum, and the building was used as a warehouse, later as a dining room. In 1998, the church was handed over to the Russian Orthodox Church in a depressing state. Priest Dimitri Sannikov was appointed rector. Restoration work has begun in the Church of the Intercession. Father Dimitri became rector of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos on April 12, 2006. The temple was previously in a deplorable condition. It took a lot of work to bring the temple to the form in which it appears before us today. Lighting has been carried out in the temple, heating has been repaired, and now, thanks to the trustee, the central dome is being erected.
