Chapel of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God

In memory of the natives of the city of Danilov, who died in the battles for the Fatherland, a wooden chapel was erected in Danilov in 1998.

It was built on the site of a temple destroyed in the Soviet era. The initiative to build the chapel belongs to Afghan veterans and participants in the fighting in Chechnya, as well as local residents. In its appearance, the chapel resembles ancient northern temples and has a tent-like finish. The choice of the chapel's name is no coincidence. In ancient Russia, the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, called the "Hodigitria" ("guide book"), was one of the most revered images of the Russian Orthodox Church. The blessed power of this icon is mentioned more than once in ancient legends. The hodegetria appears to us as the intercessor and guardian of the Russian soldiers during the difficult time of the enemy's attack.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
