Resurrection Cathedral in Danilov

In the very center of the city of Danilova there is a huge building of the House of Culture. Only an observant person will be able to identify the structures of the former main temple of the city — the Resurrection Cathedral.

The construction of the cathedral was carried out in the 20s of the XIX century at the expense of parishioners. The winter church building was located next to the summer temple. The cathedral was built on the model of the Assumption Cathedral of Rostov the Great on the site of a former wooden church. It was a three-altar church in the classical style with two side chapels. To this day, only the quadrangle of the stone summer church has survived, in which it is very difficult to recognize the former religious building, since in Soviet times the Resurrection Cathedral was closed and significantly rebuilt. The domes were dismantled, a portico with an open staircase was built, and inside the temple was divided into floors and halls. Since the 60s, the building has housed the regional House of Culture, where various exhibitions, celebrations and festivals are now taking place. It has now been decided to transfer the building to the behest of the Russian Orthodox Church and begin to recreate its original appearance.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
