Temple complex in Sheldomezh village

The name of the village of Sheldomezh is associated with the Mongol-Tatar invasion. It is believed that the Tatars allegedly reached this place as to a certain boundary, "to the boundary", and did not move further than it.

The construction of the first wooden church in the village, according to local historians, also dates back to the 13th century, to the time of the battle on the Sit River.

At the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, a church of the Holy Life-Giving Trinity with side chapels in the name of the Shestokovskaya Icon of the Mother of God and the Holy Prince George Vsevolodovich was built on a hill nearby.

In 1887, the Shestokovo women's community was established here, the initial basis of which was the novices of the Bezhetsky Monastery. On December 17, 1906, by decree of the Holy Synod, the community was renamed the monastery of the Miraculous Shestokovskaya Icon of the Mother of God.

During the Soviet years, the monastery was liquidated, both temples were closed and looted. Today, only a skeleton remains of the Trinity Church, standing alone above the surrounding area, from a distance resembling the helmet of a Russian warrior and reminiscent of the distant events of the Battle of Sita. Nearby are the ruins of the Resurrection Church. The fate of the Shestokovskaya Icon of the Mother of God is unknown. Only the miraculously preserved list of the 19th century remained.
