Bolsheselsky Museum (Center of Historical, Cultural and Artistic Heritage of the BIS)

The museum is a unique cultural space that can combine knowledge about the past, reflection on the present and an excursion into the possible future.

The museum is located in the house of merchant Kapranov Iona Alexandrovich, built as a dowry for one of his daughters in 1890.The history of the Bolsheselsky Museum begins on June 21, 1969. At the opening of the national museum, great importance was given to expositions dedicated to the history of the Bolsheselsky district Committee of the CPSU. In the early 70s, the museum did not work. It was only in 1973 that he reopened the door to visitors. All this time, the museum existed as a folk museum, and only in 2001, a museum and exhibition center was established at the regional House of Culture.

The museum has the following exhibitions:

"Tea Room" - recreates the premises of the tea rooms of the late 19th - early 20th century

The Merchant's Room recreates the interior and everyday life of the merchant class of the Bolsheselsky Region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The "Trading shop" is recreated from old photographs of the trading shops of the late 19th century, which were located in a Large Village. A large village before the revolution was a large shopping center of the Yaroslavl province

A peasant hut featuring household items of the peasant class at the turn of the 19th and early 20th centuries

The exhibition is dedicated to the self-taught peasant poet Ivan Zakharovich Surikov

The museum also has a temporary exhibition room, where exhibitions change once a month.

The museum staff is actively and purposefully working to replenish the fund, attract tourists and new exhibitions.
