It is known that the temple of Flora and Lavra in the village of Florovsky, Bolsheselsky district, Yaroslavl region, was erected on the site of the miraculous appearance of the icon of the Mother of God. Local legend says that Catherine II's entourage once came to these places famous for their abundant and especially delicious cranberries and got lost in the swamps, which in those days were much more marshy than they are now. Night had fallen. Desperate, the lost ones began to pray fervently, and after a while they saw a light on the top of the tree, emanating from the icon that appeared there. They wandered into this light and went out to their carriages, and escaped.
To commemorate the event, a magnificent temple with five domes and a bell tower was erected.
The two–story stone church was built in 1787 on the site of ancient wooden temples and had four altars on the upper cold floor – in honor of the Renovation of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ; in the refectory of the same cold church on the right side – in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker; in the lower warm floor - in the name of the holy martyrs. Flora and Lavra; in the meal on the right side – in the name of the Holy Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessalonica. The five-domed Church of the Resurrection is interesting in its architecture and facade design, preserving the traditions of the Baroque.
The temple is currently in operation.
