Yaroslavl Youth Theater was founded in 1984 with the active support of Viktor Sergeevich Rozov and opened with the premiere of a play based on his play "Forever Alive". It was a long-awaited event in Yaroslavl, the city of the first Russian professional theater.
Over the past quarter of a century, 150 premieres have taken place on the stage of the Yaroslavl Youth Theater. The theater's repertoire includes performances for children, teenagers and the older generation. The Yaroslavl Youth Theater troupe is rightfully considered one of the most musical among the youth theaters in Russia. The sound of a live orchestra, complex polyphonic singing, and vibrant solo performances have become the adornment of many theater performances.
The theater's troupe is harmoniously balanced and unites the older, middle and younger generations of actors. Among them are 4 Honored Artists of Russia and People's Artist of the Russian Federation Vitaly Stuzhev. Currently, the theater has been replenished with young graduate actors who play leading roles in many productions.
The theater was led by famous Russian directors Sergey Rozov, Stanislav Tayushev, Alexander Kuzin, Roman Marholia.The theater has always kept up with the times, remaining relevant to its young, demanding audience. The plays of Andersen and Schwartz, Chekhov and Gogol, Ostrovsky and Gorky, Vampilov, and Shukshin have made up a rich palette of the children's theater's repertoire, educating the younger generation on the best examples of Russian and European drama.
There is always a place in the life of the theater for the creative searches of the younger generation of playwrights, actors and musicians. Experimental work on plays by modern Russian and Western playwrights is underway on the small stage of the theater, master classes are being held with leading Russian theater figures, and international creative projects are being prepared.
Yaroslavl Theater of the Young Spectator is a participant of numerous Russian and international theater festivals. The performances and actors of the theater were awarded at festivals in Germany, Poland, Yugoslavia, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Novgorod, Chelyabinsk, etc.
The theater also conducts extensive humanitarian and educational work in the city and the region. He participates in a program to support children with disabilities, shows performances in orphanages, and promotes the rehabilitation of teenagers in prison.
The institution has won the F. G. Volkov Regional Theater Award 6 times. Famous Russian theater directors B. Granatov, A. Mikhailov, I. Selin, B. Gurevich and others staged performances on its stage.
