Rybinsk Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve

The Rybinsk State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve is the main attraction of the ancient Volga city. It is located in the building of the New Grain Exchange, designed by Moscow architect A.V. Ivanov on the high bank of the Volga River in 1912 in the form of fabulously intricate "Old Russian chambers".

The museum in Rybinsk was established on the initiative of members of the Rybinsk branch of the Yaroslavl Natural History Society in 1910 based on the materials of V. S. Mikhalkov (1817-1900), a representative of the oldest noble family, a bibliophile and collector, the owner of the Petrovskoye estate located in the suburbs.

The basis of the art collection is represented by the works of famous masters of the Russian school of the XVIII – early XX century: I. Ya. Vishnyakov, I. K. Aivazovsky, Z. E. Serebryakova. The portrait gallery of Counts Musin-Pushkin is widely represented.

The materials of the museum's collections make it possible to regularly organize thematic exhibitions of various contents and take part in many exhibition projects in collaboration with other museums in the region. Various thematic interactive events are available for everyone.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
