Church of the Epiphany

The Church of the Epiphany was built in 1684-1693 at the expense of the wealthy merchant Alexei Zubchaninov. It is now in joint use of the Yaroslavl Museum-Reserve and the Russian Orthodox Church. The temple still plays an important role in the architectural ensemble of the Kotorosli River embankment, along with the monastery ensemble, as if protecting the entrance to the city from Moscow.

The main decoration of the temple is the multicolored irrigation tiles, which today are considered the hallmark of the city. Frescoes and an iconostasis from the end of the 17th century have been preserved. The painting consists of 320 story stamps and has been preserved almost completely.

The architectural monument is open to the public during the warmer months, and has been closed since October 1 to preserve the frescoes.
