Oval, clean and huge Pleshcheyevo Lake is one of the main decorations of Pereslavl, an ancient town in central Russia.

The reservoir with a modern area of more than 50 square kilometers is a particularly valuable monument of nature and history of the Zalessky region. It was formed many millennia ago as a result of glacier activity.

The Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park is located 130 km northeast of Moscow in the Yaroslavl Region, on the route of the Golden Ring. The unique lake Pleshcheyevo and its surroundings, the ancient city of Pereslavl-Zalessky – one of the centers of the formation of the Russian state – are a valuable natural and historical territory of national importance, part of the natural and cultural heritage of our Fatherland.

Lake Pleshcheyevo is fed by 19 rivers and streams, and only one river flows out of it — the Vexa, 8 kilometers long. It is the Vexa that connects Lake Pleshcheyevo with the Volga River through Lake Somino and the Volga Nerl. There are more than 16 species of fish in Pereslavl Lake, including burbot, pike, roach and the famous grouse — a rare freshwater herring.

Throughout the entire existence of the city, the life of Pereslavl residents was closely connected with this reservoir. Orthodox monasteries and churches were built along the hilly shores of the lake in beautiful places, which were often visited by grand dukes and tsars. At one time, Peter the Great also drew attention to the lake, who made Pereslavl a kind of cradle of the Russian navy in a few years.

Currently, Pleshcheyevo Lake attracts many people with its beauty and uniqueness, largely determining the development of the city as a famous tourist center.

Visiting the territory of the Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park is possible with a permit. You can get permission online by following the link.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
