Stable yard

The stable yard is a new museum object, an architectural monument of the late 17th century, commissioned after a large–scale restoration in 2013-2019. The building is a single ensemble with the Rostov Kremlin (Bishop's House).

The original appearance of the building was changed by the rebuilding of the XVIII and XIX centuries, it was used for many years as barracks, warehouses, shopping malls. In the XX century, the unique architectural complex, the only one of the surviving similar monuments of the XVII century, was on the verge of destruction. Thanks to the efforts of the Rostov Kremlin Museum, the severely damaged Stable Yard, which was threatened with demolition, was accepted for restoration.

The building is a square, open to the north. It combines features of different architectural eras. The western and southern parts were restored, if possible, for the XVII century, the eastern part retained the features of the 19th century perestroika. The completely destroyed northeast corner received a glass wall – this decision was made to visualize the missing section of the structure.

Exhibition activities in the Stable Yard began on November 30, 2021.
