The Breitovo Museum of Local Lore opened its doors on November 6, 1962. It was among the first folk museums to operate on a voluntary basis. The origins of its creation were local historians, veterans of the Great Patriotic War: B. P. Komarov, N. I. Serov and others. The first exposition of the museum reflected the revolutionary events of 1917-1918, the establishment of Soviet power in the Breitovo volost, the creation of the Breitovo Republic and the participation of Breitovites in the Civil War.
The Breit Museum had its ups and downs: the museum was closed, burned, rebuilt, and repeatedly moved from one room to another; there were periods of complete oblivion. Thanks to the efforts of the head of the Department for Culture, Youth, Physical Education and Sports of the administration of the Breitovo municipal district, A. A. Shmagina, and the teacher of the art department of the Breitovo Children's Art School, T. L. Lovchikova, in 1993, the museum in the village of Breitovo began to be revived again. On June 1, 1998, according to the decree of the head of the Breitovsky municipal district, S. I. Karabitsky, the museum received official status and became known as the Breitovsky Museum of Local Lore.
The museum is located in a separate adapted wooden building. Now his funds number more than 1,400 items of the main fund: objects of ethnography, documents, photographs. The expositions tell about the history of the Breitovo region and the village of Breitovo. The museum hosts exhibitions, workshops, museum programs, and guided tours for adults and children.
