Gayutinskaya painting

04 December 2025, 07:12

Gayutinskaya painting is a cultural landmark of Poshekhonye.

The researchers drew attention to the special patterns decorating the ancient spinning wheels from the village of Gayutino: small strokes and dots are applied on a dark background, red or green. The craftsmen painted wooden objects with a thin brush or stick, creating symmetrical ornaments similar to mosaics or beaded embroidery.

Nowadays, in Poshekhonye, you can buy souvenirs decorated with Gayutinsky paintings, or paint objects with your own hands at a Master class at the Poshekhon Museum of Local Lore.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
