Museum embankment in Yaroslavl

3 h
If you need a lifetime experience, then there is no better route than a walk along the "Museum Embankment"!

There are not many cities around the world that can offer tourists a unique walk along the "Museum Embankment". Yaroslavl is one of those few! The local Volga embankment may well be renamed the museum embankment. More than a dozen museums lined up one after another along one of Europe's main river thoroughfares running through the city. From public to private. From having an impressive collection to chamber, but very atmospheric. If you need a lifetime experience, then you can't think of a better route than a walk along the museum embankment!

Along the coast of Kotorosli

The museum embankment in Yaroslavl, in fact, begins with the Main embankment, which in itself resembles an open-air museum.

Here, on the upper tier of Strelka, the confluence of Kotorosli and Volga, there is an unusual monument to the Old Testament Trinity, referring to the famous icon of Andrei Rublev. Nearby there is a huge boulder that marked the place where, according to legend, Prince Yaroslav the Wise founded the city.

And closer to the museum-reserve, on the Kotoroslnaya embankment, there is a graceful chapel of the Kazan Mother of God, facing the sky. She does not have an altar and an iconostasis, but there is a stained glass window with the image of the Kazan Mother of God. The chapel recalls the victory over the Polish interventionists during the time of Troubles – it was in Yaroslavl that the famous Militia led by Dmitry Pozharsky and Kozma Minin gathered with their forces. From the chapel, you can start a promenade along the embankment of museums in Yaroslavl.

One of the oldest museums in Russia, which celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2015, is located on the territory of the former Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery. The architecture of the XVI – XIX centuries has been preserved here. In the Spassky Cathedral, you can see authentic frescoes from the time of Ivan the Terrible. And from the belfry, the only observation deck of the city, there is a view of the entire historical center of Yaroslavl.

In the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in the XVIII century, the only handwritten list "Words about Igor's regiment" was found. Today, in one of the museum's exhibitions dedicated to the ancient monument, an ancient manuscript, as well as several other works of ancient Russian literature, can be read by "flipping through" a sensory book.

Objects of religious worship made of gold, silver, precious stones, enamel are presented in the exposition "Treasures of Yaroslavl". Products for monasteries and temples created by Russian and European jewelers in the XVII – XIX centuries are distinguished by their amazing beauty and virtuosity of execution.

The history of the animal and plant world of the Yaroslavl Region from prehistoric times to the present day is presented in the Department of Nature. Large-scale landscape dioramas create a sense of presence in the impenetrable forest thicket or allow you to look deep into the swamp. And the reconstruction panoramas reproduce landscapes and fossils of animals that lived in these places during the Ice Age.

On the territory of the museum there is a sign "Kopeck of 1612" – in memory of the coin minted in Yaroslavl during the time of Troubles. Near the monument, at the request of visitors, a blacksmith will make a copy of a penny, which will certainly bring good luck!

In Yaroslavl, bears do not walk the streets, in Yaroslavl, bears live in an interactive exhibition hall – that's how the creators of the couture show "Bear Corner" joke.

The exposition dedicated to the symbol of the city includes several halls. And it was based on an exclusive collection of designer outfits reflecting the historical, cultural and sporting heritage of Yaroslavl. A bear acts as a model representing brands. The idea of this couture show was born from the tradition of dressing up a bronze bear - a monument to him was erected at the intersection of Pervomaiskaya and Nakhimson streets in 2009, it is a few steps from the museum. During his lifetime, the symbol of the city was dressed up in everything on the occasion of important holidays and events. The wardrobe of the bronze fashionista has more than 150 costumes! The designer showroom presents mini-copies of all these costumes.

But the museum is not only good with outfits. Here in the "Honey pantry" you can taste unique varieties of honey and buy those that you like.

Karaoke lovers in the recording studio "Bear in the Ear" will be helped to release their own musical composition, which will become a unique gift for the dearest and closest.

And in the thematic photo zones, of which there are several, visitors are offered to take pictures surrounded by ... of course, bears.
