Walking through the "Mouse Kingdom"

An excursion program for private guests around the city with museum visits.

"The Mouse Kingdom" is a sightseeing tour of the city, during which you will visit the Volga Embankment, the Victory Memorial, the estate of the millionaire merchant T.V. Chistov, and also visit 5 museums.:

- the Myshkin Chambers tourist complex. The courtyard girls will meet you and show you the royal mansions. You will visit the reception of the King of mice with the queen, the mouse management center, the cheese room and the real royal menagerie.

- the mill of the merchant T.V. Chistov. We will tell you about the oil mill of the 19th century, learn the way to turn grain into flour and get acquainted with the "barn" mice.

- the Russian Felt Boots Museum, where you will not only get acquainted with the secrets of making the warmest shoes in the world, but also see interesting exhibits.

- the ethnographic exposition "Flax" with the exhibition "The doll is my friend". You will learn about how flax grows from a small flax seed, how threads are made, linen is woven and clothes are sewn, as well as which dolls our great-grandmothers played with, how dolls were made, and what they served for.

- the museum of "living" crafts, where pottery and blacksmithing masters are waiting for you to demonstrate their art.

  • 1. The Russian Felt Boots Museum

    Myshkin boots were made only from the wool of Romanov sheep, and not from mouse wool at all.

    In the museum you will follow the process of making felt boots, learn about how the great Russian sovereigns treated them. They will reveal the secrets of the healing properties of felt boots, tell you about ancient fortune-telling and traditions. Here you will see felt boots that have been transformed by talented craftsmen from ordinary industrial "Cinderellas" into "fairy princesses", as well as get acquainted with the "sisters and brothers of felt boots" and see various samples of antique shoes: shoes, boots, boots of yesteryear. In the museum, you can also stock up on fashionable handmade shoes for the winter season, because classics are always in fashion!

  • 2. The Flax Museum

    You will be told how our ancestors made fiber from a stalk, then threads, woven linen and towels, sewed clothes. You will see the work of a real loom, which was skillfully loaded with threads by our grandmothers and great-grandmothers.

    The interesting exhibition "My Little Doll" will tell you what kind of dolls our great–grandmothers played with, how the dolls were made and what they served for. At the museum, you can participate in workshops on making linen dolls and northern beregini.

  • 3. The Old Mill Museum

    The ancient mill of the richest Myshkin merchants of the Chistovs worked until the 70s of the last century. Currently, there are 3 exhibitions in the mill building.

    "Barn mice." The mill has preserved ancient mechanisms that are guarded by large barn mice. You will learn all about the mill industry in the 19th century and its features.

    "Merchant shops". This exhibition presents fragments of three merchant shops: grocery, furniture and hardware. You will find out which trade was the most profitable and get acquainted with the merchant traditions of the Myshkinsky district of the 19th century.

    "The Tree of Life." This exhibition is dedicated to our ancestors, who lived on this earth and made absolutely everything they needed in everyday life out of wood. You will learn what the expressions "get drunk" and "get into a mess" mean.

  • 4. Museum of "Living" Crafts

    The museum of "living" crafts was founded by our craftsman Vasily Terkin. Here you can see how a simple piece of metal makes a knitting needle, and a piece of clay makes a real jug.

  • 5. Volzhskaya embankment

    In the central part of the Volga embankment, near the Victory Memorial, there is a rotunda, which preserves the unique aura of the city. In order to feel it, stand in the center of the rotunda and heartily shout "Myshkin is the best" and you will feel how the love of the city's residents will fill you with unique emotions.

    From the upper tier of the embankment there is a view of the great Volga River and the confluence of the Yukhot River with it.

    Walking along the lower tier, you can reach the path of Vladimir Grechukhin, a man who loved Myshkin all his life.

  • 6. Victory Memorial

    The memorial complex dedicated to the 60th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War was built in 2005. Architect Oleg Medvedev, sculptor Sergey Skala.

    The center of the exhibition is the figure of a bronze soldier. In front of the sculpture on a pedestal is a five–pointed star and an Eternal Flame. The memorial reveals the theme of the unity of the front and rear. The granite slabs immortalize the lines of the original letters of one of the Myshkin families. The Victory Memorial is the great pride of a small town!

  • 7. CURRENT "Myshkin chambers"

    We invite you to plunge into the atmosphere of royal life.

    The courtyard girls will gladly blurt out all the palace secrets and guide you along the mouse trails.

    The hospitable king and queen will tell you how heavy the crown is, and teach you how to protect yourself from cat attacks.

    You will visit the throne room, the mouse management center, the real "royal" menagerie and the cheese room.

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
