In the XVIII – XIX centuries, the wooden center, according to the Regular Plan of 1779, was rebuilt in stone at the expense of local merchants. The route runs along the Rostov Kremlin

The Kremlin complex was built in the XVII century, when Rostov was no longer of strategic importance, so its structures are not adapted to protect against the enemy: wide entrance gates, windows with architraves, lack of places for convenient location of defenders. The complex consists of 11 towers, churches, "chambers" and a number of civil buildings.

The defensive earthworks of Rostov the Great began to be built in 1632 and were completed two years later — in 1634. The author and head of the construction was the Dutch engineer Jan Cornelius Rodenburg from Amsterdam, who was invited to the court of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich in 1631.

The Vasilko Square completes the tourist route.

This is a new recreation and walking area. Trees and shrubs have been planted here, pedestrian paths have been paved, street lighting and bicycle parking have been installed.

The square was named after Prince Vasilko of Rostov, grandson of Vsevolod the Big Nest.

In 1218, Vasilko received Rostov from his father as an inheritance; in 1223, on the orders of his uncle, Grand Duke Yuri, he went to help the southern princes against the Tatars, but after learning about the battle of Kalka, he returned to Rostov. According to the chronicle, he was loved by both the Rostov residents and his squad. The Church honors St. Basil as a heroic defender of the Russian Land.

On March 4, 1238, a decisive battle took place on the City River. The Tatars managed to surround the Russian army with an unexpected maneuver. The wounded Vasilko was brought to Batu's headquarters. Despite flattering promises of glory and threats of horrors of torment, the faithful prince refused to enter the service of Batu and accept his faith. The Church honors Saint Vasilko as a passion-bearing ascetic, a heroic defender of the Russian land.
