An exciting journey to Admiral Ushakov's homeland, both by land and by water!

The route includes several significant and interesting places, both in the village of Hopylevo itself and on the way to it. Departing from Rybinsk, you can stop by the village of Shashkovo, where the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is located. It was built in the village of Shashkovo in 1775. It had four altars, three on the upper floor: in honor of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, in the name of the icon of the Mother of God, called "Deliverance from the Troubles of the Suffering," and in the name of St. Cyril of Novoezersk, the Wonderworker; one on the lower floor, warm: in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra. In summer, these places can be reached along the Volga by the motor ship Moskovsky - 7, which departs from the river station in Rybinsk, or by car or commuter bus 160 Rybinsk-Tutaev left bank.     Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross

    The church dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in the village of Shashkovo in 1775. It had four altars, three on the upper floor: in honor of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, in the name of the icon of the Mother of God, called "Deliverance from the Troubles of the Suffering," and in the name of St. Cyril of Novoezersk, the Wonderworker; one on the lower floor, warm: in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra.

    In the 30s of the XX century, the temple was closed, and over time the building deteriorated and collapsed.

    Since 2020, clean-up days have been regularly held on the territory of the church, through the efforts of the cleric of the Iveron Temple, Priest Stachy Trufanov, and parishioners, restoration work is being carried out here.

    In the winter of 1745, the future admiral of the Russian Navy, the holy righteous warrior Theodore Ushakov (+1817), was baptized in the Epiphany Church, as well as earlier, in 1718, his now–venerated kinsman Ivan Ushakov– the Reverend Theodore Sanaksarsky (+1791). The Ushakov patrimony, the village of Burnakovo– is located four kilometers east of the village of Hopylevo. The parents of the righteous Theodore Ushakov, Feodor Ignatievich and Paraskeva Nikitichna Ushakov, are buried in the churchyard of the Epiphany Church.

The clerical gazette on churches and parishes of the 3rd Romanov-Borisoglebsky district of the Romanov-Borisoglebsky district for 1907 states that it was built in 1907 "with the care of parishioners ... in memory of the liberation of peasants from serfdom in 1861," that is, in memory of the sovereign Emperor Alexander II.

    A monument to Admiral Ushakov and Fyodor Sanaksarsky has been erected on the banks of the Volga River in the village of Hopylevo.

    A monument to Admiral Ushakov and Fyodor Sanaksarsky has been erected on the banks of the Volga River in the village of Hopylevo. The three-meter-high sculptural composition is installed at the baptismal site of the future Russian admiral. "The idea of the monument is to show how and where the personality of the future admiral was formed. This is a wide bend of the Volga River, the spiritual guidance of Uncle Fyodor Sanaksarsky, who was canonized," says Dmitry Rudakov, first deputy head of the Rybinsk city administration. The opening of the monument was timed to coincide with the IV All-Russian Festival of Culture and Art named after the Holy Righteous Warrior Feodor Ushakov. 

The main attraction of the Yaroslavl region is a constellation of 12 ancient cities: Yaroslavl, Gavrilov-Yam, Danilov, Lyubim, Myshkin, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Poshekhonye, Rostov the Great, Rybinsk, Tutaev, Uglich and the flooded Mologa. Each of them has its own unique appearance and atmosphere.
