On the shore of Pleshcheyev Lake near Pereslavl-Zalessky there is a legendary Blue Stone – a 12-ton boulder, which was an object of cult worship in pagan times.
There is a whole halo of legends around the stone. To combat paganism, the authorities tried to destroy it several times. But being buried in the ground or drowned in the lake, the boulder reappeared every time. Although scientists have rational explanations for the "mystical" behavior of the Blue Stone, its mystery cannot leave anyone indifferent.
The blue stone on Pleshcheyev Lake is not the only one in the Yaroslavl region, but the most famous. The veneration of large boulders was characteristic of the ancient tribe of Merya, who lived here before the Slavs. Experts agree that the name of the stone is not related to its color, it comes from the Finno-Ugric root of the language spoken by the chronicled Merya.
It is all the more interesting to visit the Blue Stone, stand by it in silence, learn about the rituals of the ancient pagans and understand how diverse and mysterious our history is.
The area adjacent to the Blue Stone is landscaped with souvenir stalls and toilets.
It is an object of regional significance. It is located on the territory of the Pleshcheyevo Lake National Park.
